Handmade wedding invitations: do’s and dont’s!
A few quick tips that I’ve picked up over the years. Make sure that your handmade invitations will travel well in the post. Consider sending them in padded envelopes if the design is particularly delicate (although all of my stationery is designed to stand up well in a standard envelope).

Another thing to consider with your invitations is proof-reading! It sounds basic enough, but to avoid spelling mistakes you need to re-read the insert wording for an invitation several times.

Proof-reading is most important on certain kinds of stationery – definitely on invitations, but also on table plans and place settings (being consistent and right with how you spell peoples’ names).

If you want to include photographs on your invitations or other wedding stationery, it is worth thinking about the resolution of the picture. A good quality picture will print well and be a good match for quality stationery. You can see my bespoke stationery page for examples of invitations with photos on.

Keep a list of who you’ve sent invitations to! And be clear on who has received evening invitations and who’s had the day invites. It’s helpful to keep track like this, but definitely when it comes to wedding invitations. If you include acceptance cards, you will have these to keep track of who has accepted.

Think about spares – you may need some spare invitations and other wedding stationery items to hand.

Consider sending out handmade save the date cards before invitations to make sure everyone has the date of your wedding in their diaries.
